Barred Plymouth Rock Large Fowl
These birds are prolific layers of the pale brown eggs.
The hens will lay about 280 eggs in the first year of lay and will lay for 4 years generally.
The amount of eggs any bird lays is governed by her diet and also the hours of daylight
The Cockerels will make a reasonable size for the table but not generally until they are 6 months old so you will give a lot of feed for a small-ish meal
We recommend that the birds are fed a Hybrid layers diet of Poultry Layers Pellets with 17% protein in the mix.
MIXED POULTRY GRIT IS A NECCESSITY FOR ALL BIRDS.
Feeding corn at any time to these type of birds will make them fat and a lazy layer. This is because Corn has not got enough protein to give you an egg and put the condition into the bird to keep the hen laying.
